Ovoids and Translation Planes from Lattices

Translation planes admitting 2Alt6 ∼= SL(2, 9), and those of ‘extraspecial type’ (admitting 2 − Alt5), have been studied by Ostrom, Mason, Shult and others. We show the existence of such planes of order p for all odd primes p. We construct such planes using ovoids obtained from lattices by the constructions of Conway et al. [5] and this author [14], [15].
